The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque will make its debut in America at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. The British manufacturer describes its new product as a compact SUV that is “at home in both cities and the mountains.” This unique combination of a beautiful design, advanced driver assistance technologies, a hybrid powertrain, and an attractive design are what the company claims.
The new Evoque, an electrified engine, will be available in the U.S. Land Rover The mild-hybrid turbo-gas unit is 2.0-liter and produces 296 horsepower (221 kilowatts). The MHEV system stores energy lost during acceleration and stores it in an underground battery pack. It also turns off the ICE when speeds are below 11 miles an hour (17 km per hour). The stored energy can be used to aid the engine once the driver presses the accelerator pedal.
The hybrid powertrain comes mated with a ZF nine-speed automatic transmission. ZF claims it is quieter than a standard ICE mated with an automatic transmission. A 2.0-liter Ingenium turbo gasoline unit that generates 246 horsepower (183 kW) is another option.
The 2020 Evoque, which will be available in the U.S. as a standard model, will feature an all-wheel-drive system. This is combined with the Driveline Disconnect system from the company. It seamlessly switches between two-wheel and all-wheel drives depending on road conditions. The system automatically detects and adjusts vehicle performance settings based on the road surface.
Land Rover is particularly proud of its ClearSight ground view system, which was introduced with Evoque’s European version. The system allows the driver to see the vehicle’s hood through the radiator grille and sidemirrors. The system shows the driver what’s ahead and under the vehicle’s front to the infotainment display.
The new Evoque also features the Smart Settings system. This is a first for Land Rover production vehicles. It uses artificial intelligence algorithms that analyze the preferences and habits to adjust climate, audio and seat positions to maximize comfort.
The Adaptive Dynamics system, which monitors road conditions every 100ms, adjusts suspension dampers to provide “a composed ride for increased control on varying terrains.”
“The Range Rover Evoque was a revolutionary compact SUV when it made its debut in 2010. The new model will continue that transformation,” Gerry McGovern (Land Rover Chief Design Officer) comments. “This unique vehicle blends refinement with fun to create an emotional reaction that will make people smile and turn heads.
Land Rover will ask for at least $42,650 to purchase the new Evoque later in the year. The most affordable mild-hybrid model will be $46,600.
