A month after the mechanically related Golf VIII.
The Octavia, along with the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3, SEAT Leon and the Audi A3, was part of the first wave of MQB vehicles by VW Group. Seven years have passed since then and it is almost time for the next installment of the series compact cars that ride on the Modularer Querbaukasten platform. We have just learned that the Golf VIII hatchback will be presented in its world premiere in October.
Instead of bringing it to Frankfurt Motor Show, to share the spotlight with
2020 Superb Skoda will organize an event to celebrate the fourth generation of its most popular car, the electric Citigo and two new Monte Carlo models. Just in time for the 60th anniversary of the nameplate 60 Th anniversary, the new Octavia will go upmarket to avoid any overlap with Skoda’s.
Scala It is a fancy replacement for the ordinary Rapid. The Octavia is already a large model in its class. However, the new model will be larger to emphasize the company’s emphasis on cargo space and rear legroom. Although the exterior styling will not be revolutionary, we are happy to report that the split headlights will no longer be an option. Spy shots of prototypes revealed that the Octavia IV would revert back to traditional front lights to create a front fascia similar to the Superb.
The tailgate will be extended onto the tailgate by the wider taillights on both the liftback and wagon. This is the first time this has ever happened in modern Octavia history. The corporate badge at the rear, as with previous models from Mlada Boleslav will be replaced by the “SKODA” lettering. This is a questionable design decision. It was first seen last summer in the China-only Kodiaq GT.
The exterior will not be significantly different from today’s model but the cabin will undergo major changes, as shown in spy photos. The Octavia will have an infotainment system that looks like a tablet sticking out of the center console. To confirm Skoda’s decision to create an upscale Octavia, a two-spoke steering column, and an upgraded digital cluster of instruments were all seen in test vehicles.
The Golf VIII’s unveil will reveal the oily parts, but we expect at least 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI gasoline engine, 2.0 TDI diesel and mild-hybrid tech. A future plug-in hybrid derivative could also be available with a powertrain that is shared with the new Golf GT and SEAT Leon PHEV. The range will be spiced up once again with an Octavia RS. It might also go down the hybrid route which would increase performance and reduce fuel consumption. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Skoda will create a new Octavia Scout, as the lifted wagon would be our pick.
