However, it’s still a concept.
Since April this Year, we have been watching the next-generation Volkswagen Caddy, but the manufacturer has not allowed us to see much of the redesigned commercial vehicle. The first teaser images of the new Caddy have been published by the German automaker’s commercial division .
These two sketches show the van looking sporty with its sleek front fascia and massive wheels. The A-pillars also have funky side mirrors. The back is futuristic and clean. Delivery letters suggest this is the cargo panel model.
We like what we see but we will have to disappoint. The spy photos taken earlier this year confirmed that the new Caddy will keep the same basic shape as its predecessors, and will still use a conservative design approach. Volkswagen also stated in its press release that the sketches were a preview of the new Caddy from 2020.
The exterior design of a commercial vehicle is not the most important. We don’t blame VW for not taking risks with the new Caddy’s appearance. The van will be able to ride on the MQB platform of the company and could be integrated into VW ‘s T7 lineup, as the T7 Life Caddy.
The MBQ modular architecture will enable smarter packaging and optimize interior cargo and passenger space. Although the Caddy is expected to initially be released with traditional combustion engines, the new Caddy will incorporate electrification. A 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain is being planned for later in the model’s lifespan.
