Wait, what? The new Caddy is trying to imitate Dokker Stepway for some reason.
Many people believe that the Germans lack a sense for humor. But Volkswagen proves them wrong. The ID.4 was made to look like an Opel by the Wolfsburg peeps. Now, they have a prototype for the next-generation Caddy. We are tempted to believe that VW was trying to create the appearance of a Dacia by the trapezoidal honeycomb motif on the grille and the design of the vertical taillights.
We believe the disguise was created to make the Caddy appear like a Dokker Stepway. This is actually a competitor. Fake stickers are placed on the front fenders to imitate the horizontal turn signals of a Dacia Dokker. The real ones are hidden behind the vehicle in a vertical position. The same goes for the rear brake light. Exciting stuff, right?
These images show that there is more camouflage to be found than you might think. Close inspection shows that the body appears almost completely wrapped to hide the Caddy’s actual design. The spy photos can be compared with the VW teasers that were released earlier in the week. These images showed the van with a more complex profile and character lines, while the prototype appears quite simple from the side.
Although the disguise makes the Caddy look boring, the final model will be much more attractive once the deceiving camouflage has been removed. It will be a small vehicle that can carry people and cargo. Don’t expect Lamborghini Miura-level beauty.
The Caddy’s next generation will be unveiled next month. It will replace the model that was in production since 2003. VW claims it is a completely new vehicle, as “no screw was left unturned”.
