Officially Unveiled: VW Golf 8
Volkswagen sent an email to Motor1.com stating that the Mk8 will be presented at a special event in Wolfsburg, Germany on October 24, at 18:00 CEST/ 16:00 GMT/ 12:00 EST. The event, which will take place under the banner “Life Happens with a Golf”, will focus on the 8th iteration the highly-popular compact hatchback. It also outlines its goal to “set new standards with their unmistakable design and intelligent digitalization and the entire range efficient and electrified motors.”
Wolfsburg has begun production of the new Golf. The wagon was also produced. This is due to the decision to transfer assembly of the more practical body style from Zwickau, Germany. The next Golf will be coming to the United States. However, the SportWagen is not . Customers will have to upgrade to the GTI or flagship R in order to drive the new Golf.
The global Golf lineup will undergo some changes, taking into consideration that VW recently stated they don’t plan to release a new Sportsvan as minivan sales are falling. The three-door Golf will not be making a comeback, and the e-Golf will be phased out in order to make way for the aforementioned ID.
The debut of the Golf will take place in three weeks. On November 11, Skoda will unveil the fourth generation Octavia. To refresh the core MQB-based compact VW Group offerings, the mechanically related SEAT Leon (and Audi A3 Sportback) should be followed shortly.
