The crossover and liftback will both be getting a mid-cycle update in the latter part of this year. Therefore logic suggests that the revised versions will get the PHEV treatment. A high-performance R derivative will be added to the lineup as part of the facelift. Tiguan Arteon. The latter is a wagon that we have seen repeatedly and has an R variant. The Bad news The U.S. market is not being offered the long-roof model or the sporty version. It’s been a long wait for the electrified Tiguan, considering that VW first unveiled a GTE concept in September 2015. The PHEV version was only launched last year in China. It combines a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline motor with an electric motor, and a six speed dual-clutch auto transmission. The total output is 208 horsepower, 295 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters) and can run 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h), in just 8.1 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 124 mph (200 km/h).

Both numbers are based on the local testing cycle. The Euro-spec Tiguan PHEVs will have a powertrain similar as the Passat, where the electrified wagon and sedan have 215 horsepower and 295 lb.ft (400 Nm). The 13-kWh battery has WLTP ratings of up to 35 miles (56 km) in the sedan, and slightly less in wagon due to its heavier weight. In the coming months, the Tiguan and Arteon facelifts will be revealed and should hit European markets in late 2020 or early 2021.
