Minor cosmetic changes, but with a host of safety features that are now standard.
The Chevrolet Traverse is coming off its greatest sales year yet. Three years after its last redesign, the Chevrolet Traverse has a new look. The mid-cycle refresh will include new exterior elements and interior options as well as additional, free-of-cost, active safety features.
The exterior’s most notable features will be the new LED taillights and headlights, paired with a similarly updated front and back fascias. The 2021 Traverse has a more boxy and brawnier exterior than the current model. However, the sheet metal between front and rear clips remains unchanged. Four new wheel designs and integrated turn signal indicators are also available.
New interior features include new seating options, as well as creature comforts like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration and an 8.0-inch driver information screen. The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse will keep its best-in class cargo capacity and offer USB charging ports in all rows. There are a few thoughtful improvements to the Chevy’s cabin.
The safety gear is the one that has the greatest improvements. All Traverse models now come standard with more driver-assistance features: front pedestrian braking and automatic emergency braking. Many of the equipment on the 2020 Traverse required customers to order the range-topping trims, or pay more if they wanted the mid-pack model. This is a welcome upgrade.
Chevy still hasn’t opened the door to active safety. It’s now available on the high-end High Country model, but Chevy still restricts adaptive cruise control to the ritzier models, the 3LT, RS and Premier. The Safety Alert Seat will be offered for the first-time, but Chevy is restricting that feature to the Traverse Premier or High Country models.\
Chevy has not released any information about powertrain tweaks. Therefore, we expect the Traverse to keep last year’s 3.6-liter V6 engine and nine-speed auto transmission.
The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse will be available for purchase in the second half of 2020. Prices and additional specifications will be made available closer to the launch date.
