The luxurious hatch is joined by an SUV-like Cross model and a sporty-looking Performance Line.
Stellantis’ many brands include DS Automobiles, which was established in 2009 as Citroen’s luxury sub-brand. It then evolved to become a separate marque in 2015. The lineup includes the DS 3 Crossback, DS 7 Crossback SUVs, and the DS 9 premium sedan at the top.
The new model looks much more sophisticated than the predecessor, and features a bold lighting signature that we have come to expect from PSA models. The front features matrix LEDs, along with a set of impressive daytime running lights. This makes the total number of light-emitting diodes 98. The “hidden” rear door handles of the DS 4 are no longer present. They have been replaced with a set of sleek pop-out handles that can be positioned exactly where you would expect them to.
This high-class hatchback has been redesigned to be longer and wider than its predecessor, measuring 4.4m (173.2 inches) and 1.83m (72 inches), respectively. The roofline has been lowered from 1.47m (57.8 inches) and the length is now 4.4m (173.2 inches). Customers can order it with wheels up to 20 inches in diameter and aero inserts to resemble the DS Air Sport Lounge concept.
There are many powertrain options available, including PureTech gasoline engines with 130, 180 and 225 horsepower, as well as a BlueHDi diesel engine with 130 hp. The eight-speed automatic transmissions are the only ones that can be used with them. The engine combines a 180-horsepower four cylinder engine and a 110-horsepower electrical motor to produce a total power output of 225 horsepower. The PHEV version will offer a respectable pure-electric range of 50 km (31 miles) per the WLTP.
The new model has been developed by DS Automobiles in three flavors. It includes the standard model as well as an SUV-like DS 4 Crossback, and a sporty-looking DS 4 Performance Line. You can find Nappa leather and Alcantara in the interior, which comes in a variety of configurations depending on your version.
Stellantis’ top brass haven’t yet decided whether DS Automobiles would be available in North America, where Peugeot will still return one of these days. The DS 4 will be available in Europe and other markets from the fourth quarter 2021.
