2021 Ford Explorer King Ranch Reveals Its Big Badges In New Spy Photos

The masking tape is missing.

Our spy photographers captured a fifth-generation Ford Explorer testing using masking tape to cover large badges. It was easy to see that the badges were King Ranch badges. New spy photos today confirm that the badges were indeed for King Ranch models as the SUV appears to have lost its masking tape.

These big badges are located at the lower part of the front doors and on the rear liftgate. They are just one example of the model’s upgraded features. The Explorer has an Explorer Limited grille with similar wheels to the limited model. The quad exhaust tips that protrude from the rear bumper indicate that the SUV is likely to have Ford’s twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6. This powers both the Platinum trim and the ST trim. It could produce either 365 horsepower or 400 horsepower (272 kilowatts or 298 kilowatts).

The King Ranch title means that Ford will pack in plenty of leather and King Ranch branding along with a long list of standard features. Ford’s King Ranch models are tied to the King Ranch in Texas. The moniker can mean that several upgrades will be made to the model, including a special trim and a higher level of standard equipment. Along with the new trim, a new Timberline trim is also being developed.

Ford will likely reveal the model during the first quarter of the year. The SUV could arrive at dealerships as late this fall. Ford has yet to announce when the model will go on sale. The King Ranch branding is a cowboy-styled model with a large hat. However, it will slot above the Limited trim, but below ST and Platinum trims. The engine’s output rating will give you an indication of where it will slot.
