The new Ford F-150 Raptor will be available in 2021. It has been confirmed by Ford. We captured prototypes testing in publicwearing camouflage wraps to hide details. The grille is a key feature of the next-generation Raptor. It will keep the larger-than-life Ford branding or will it go modest? You can see the answer in the CAD image. What is Modesty with a Raptor like? Pul-eeze.
This image was uploaded by an administrator to the forums at F150gen14.com. The image claims to be a 3D CAD drawing of next-gen Raptor. While we cannot verify its source, it was uploaded with a real-life photo of an F-150 “body in White” front clip. It looks exactly like the real thing. Although the photo does not include the grille we are shown the front bumper and hood which both have large openings for Raptor-esque vents. We have no reason to believe that the photo and CAD image are not authentic. However, feel free to go to the forum to examine it further. Ford has done an admirable task of hiding the details of the new Raptor on test vehicles. Some, including us, wondered if Ford was trying something new this time. The center bar is smaller than the Raptors before it. The F-150’s new styling is a step back, and the Raptor will likely continue following the same conservative trends.
What’s behind the grille will be of greater interest. The Ram TRX is Ford’s legitimate competitor in this segment. It also has a more dynamic suspension. Ram’s 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 provides a huge horsepower advantage over the Raptor, specifically 702 versus 475. However, while it’s not clear that this much power is useful off-road there is no doubt Ford has lost the bragging rights to both stoplight chasers and bench racers.
Rumours are flying about the Raptor’s engine or engines. The Blue Oval could offer Raptor customers the option of a hybrid V6 setup, similar to the Lincoln Aviator or a version supercharged from the Mustang Shelby GT500. Ford is expected to launch the Raptor with the V8, delivering between 725 and 755 horsepower. The V6 hybrid would follow, with 500 combined horsepower. The waiting game continues. Although we expect Ford to unveil the next-gen F-150 Raptor in early next year’s, at least we now know that it will continue to sport bold Ford branding like its predecessors.
