Even more striking than the old XJ was the way that the roofline curves towards the rear.
The all-new Jaguar XJ was first seen almost two months ago, as a test mule hidden underneath the body of a modified XF. The images we have now come back from our spy team are much better. They were able to see the new full-size luxury sedan and the production body. While some might think it’s the same XJ as before, there are many differences.
Due to its coupe-esque profile, we aren’t sure the new XJ has quarter glass. It’s also likely smaller than the predecessor. You’ll notice that a smaller glass was placed at the base A-pillar, where the side mirror used be. However, the next-generation model has it slightly lower on the door.
The horizontal taillights that extend onto the tailgate indicate this is not the old model. It used to have a set vertical clusters on the rear fenders. The trunk lid seems to be shorter than it was before, and the front is only partially camouflaged, giving us an idea of the LED headlights. We will wait for Jaguar in the coming months to remove some of the disguise so we can get a better view of what is shaping up as an attractive sedan.
We now know that Jaguar’s new XJ is indeed the case. The reason you aren’t seeing an exhaust is because Jaguar’s flagship sedan will not have combustion engines in its next generation. The new Modular Longitudinal Architecture of JLR (MLA) will be the vehicle’s top-of-the-line range-topper. It was teased at the Land Rover Defender’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last January. According to Automotive News Europe, it might receive a six-cylinder gasoline motor later in its life cycle.
The all-new Jaguar XJ will be making its debut later in the year. It will have to compete with the Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQS and the Porsche Taycan. We also caught the Audi E-Tron GT while was testing .
