The unveiling will be at home in South Korea.
The current Sorento has existed for nearly six years. Now, it is ready to transition to a fourth generation. According to a new report, the SUV’s mid-size counterpart won’t be presented at an auto show. Instead, Kia will introduce the model at a separate event in South Korea. This would be similar to Hyundai’s first luxury SUV, the Genesis. Our friends from The Korean Car blog claim that the new Sorento’s official debut will be held on February 17, when Kia will open the KDM-spec model order books.
The Mohave, a.k.a. The Mohave (a.k.a. Borrego) can still be purchased in South Korea, where Kia gave the body on-frame SUV an extensive facelift last ye to refresh a model that has existed since 2008. These two models are somewhat similar in Kia’s domestic lineup, although the Sorento is more focused on luxury, while the Mohave is more offroad-oriented. The first is more sophisticated and chiseled, while the second is larger and has a boxier and more robust appearance.
Kia already confirmed that the new Sorento will come with hybrid and plug in hybrid powertrains. This could be followed by a hydrogen fuel-cell variant. While the U.S.-spec version will be on sale by the end of 2019, it is unclear if the electrified derivatives will be available as soon as possible. The big debut will be in three weeks. Perhaps Kia will release teasers between now and then to help ease the wait.
