This crossover is exclusive to China and features a large grille with Telluride-like taillights.
Guangzhou Auto Show, despite being one of few survivors from the coronavirus pandemic that decimated major car events around the globe, is still thriving. It’s currently in full swing, and Kia introduced the Sportage Ace crossover at the event. This isn’t the next-generation model that will be heading to Europe or the United States next year, as it is a China-only vehicle.
KX5 is the Chinese version of the International Sportage sold in China, but the Sportage Ace is an older model. The Hyundai ix35 is the basis of this vehicle, and it now has a new exterior design. The CUV is shown here in GT Line trim. It has a huge grille that blends with the headlights, much like the new Hyundai Hyundai Tucson.
Looking back, you can see the Telluride, Sorento and Sorento influences in the taillights. The tailgate proudly sports the “Sportage”, a design element that we continue to see on new models. The pseudo diffuser can be seen, which is flanked by what appear to be fake exhaust tips. These orange accents may be reserved for GT Line trim. The two-tone alloy wheels with off-road tires wrapped in them are unlikely to be available on the production model.
All the windows were blacked out on the Kia showcar at the Guangzhou event, which suggests that Kia was not ready to reveal the interior. The Sportage Ace’s interior will not be as special because it is a facelifted version and not a new-generation model. This is because the crossover was built from an older model.
The next-generation international Sportage (pictured below) won’t have many things in common with Sportage Ace. This is not just about the exterior design. We also need to consider the technology, underpinnings and engines. This crossover is only made and sold in China. According to the street, the new global model will not be available until April 2021.
