Due to low demand, Kia has decided to discontinue the four-cylinder engines.
The attractive grand tourer was available with three engine options when Kia introduced the Stinger to the European market in 2017. A base model featured a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produced 251 horsepower and 353 Newton meters (260 pound-feet). A 2.2-liter turbodiesel with 197 horsepower and 440 Nm (325lb-ft) was available. This engine was the one that Kia predicted would be the most popular.
It turns out that Kia was wrong about diesel. Why? The V6 was the choice of the majority of Stinger owners, according to the South Korean automaker. The twin-turbo, 3.3-liter engine was so popular that Kia decided to discontinue the smaller engines in the facelifted model. The powertrain’s beefier output continues to produce 365 hp (376 lb-ft) and 510 Nm (376 kg). This is slightly less than the international version where the V6 has an electronic variable exhaust valve system that unlocks three more horsepower and maintains the same torque.
It continues to be available with an eight speed automatic transmission. The V6 is also available with rear- or all-wheel drive. Only the UK model is available with AWD. It takes just 4.9 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) and it’s the fastest selling Kia in Europe. Stinger, a US-spec car, has a 2.5-liter engine that produces 300 hp (422 Nm) and 311 lbft (422 nm). However, it will not be available on the Old Continent.
The 2021 Stinger Euro flavor has the same styling options as the global model, except for the oily bits. Kia will introduce a new set of 19-inch wheels and a new Ascot green paint. The touchscreen will be 10.25 inches larger, with a 7 inch digital display in the instrument cluster. The GT’s rearview mirror has been made frameless, and the dashboard and door cards have contrast stitching. There is also aluminum trim in the center console.
The Euro-spec Stinger features an enhanced array of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that Kia calls Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. As seen on previous Kia models, the blind spot system is now visible in the digital cluster. The revised model also includes Safe Exit Warning and Lane Following Assist, as well as Rear Occupant Alert and Highway Driving Assist.
The updated Stinger will be available in Europe by the end of 2020/early 2021. It is backed by a seven year / 100,000 mile warranty. The continent has sold approximately 10,000 units so far. It remains to be determined if there will be a new generation, perhaps an EV-only model.
