2021 Mahindra Roxor Approved For US Sale By Regulator

FCA intends to appeal the decision.

The ongoing drama between Jeep, and Mahindra-roxor-channels-original–jeep%22%7D continues. In 2018, the Indian company presented the off-road-only vehicle. Jeep tried to stop the sale of the machine in the USA, saying that it was too similar to its Wrangler. Although the two companies have been at odds since then Reuters reports the US International Trade Commission approved Mahindra’s design for the 2021 Roxor.

According to the report Fiat Chrysler Automobile (the parent company of Jeep) stated in a statement that they were “disappointed” by the decisions and that they plan to appeal them. Mahindra stated that the ruling validated the automaker’s redesigned Roxor. The company is now allowed to produce and distribute it. The ITC ruled the Roxor’s design does not violate Jeep’s intellectual property rights.

In late 2019, a judge was called to resolve the dispute over the Roxor’s design. The judge sided with FCA in this matter. Mahindra was found to have violated the Wrangler’s design and the company was banned from selling the Roxor. Although the redesign was enough to please the judges, it didn’t suffice to save the Roxor. The company had to go back to the drawing boards. Many similarities to the Jeep CJ-like design elements were found in the Roxor’s design, including door cutouts and exterior hood latches.

Mahindra hopes that the recent ruling will keep Jeep at bay. However, the American company intends to appeal the decision which is still confusing. The Roxor is not a direct competitor to Wrangler – it isn’t even legal for US road use. It is a side-by – side-by-side offroader that has a turbo-diesel 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel generating just 62 horsepower (46 Kilowatts) 144 pound-feet (195 Newton-meters). It can travel at a speed of 45 mph (72 km/h).
