Mazda Mexico revealed the Mazda3T Turbo on Monday, even though the US division had posted a teaser video, announcing a premiere on July 8. The US-spec model will officially debut with a turbocharged 2.5 liter engine producing 227 horsepower and 311 pound-feet (420 Newton-meters of torque) These output numbers are comparable to the Mexican model, but they can be obtained on 87 octane gasoline.
SkyActiv-G 2.5T and premium 93 octane gasoline will unlock 23 hp (14 Nm) and an additional 10 lb/ft (23 Nm), for a total of 250 HP and 320 Lb-ft (434Nm). The US-spec version is identical to its Mexican counterpart and comes with only all-wheel drive. You won’t get a three-pedal configuration with the Mazda3, as it will only be available in an auto-only model.
The 2021 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo is available in sedan and hatchback versions. It comes standard with 18-inch black wheels, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, paddle shifters and a 12-speaker Bose soundsystem.
There are many other features, such as a head-up display and dual-zone climate control. Heated front seats and mirrors, LED and headlights, DRLs, and automatic wipers. You can also support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety features include blind-spot monitoring, radar cruise control and stop-and-go. There’s also lane-keep assistance and adaptive headlights.
Upgrade to the Premium Plus Package, and Mazda will include a trunk spoiler for sedans and a roof-mounted rear spoiler hatchbacks. Both are finished in glossy black. Customers also get an extensive range of safety and driver assistance features, including an advanced radar cruise controller that can drive the car at speeds below 40 mph (64 km/h). Automatic braking is available when the vehicle is in reverse and is about to collide with something. An upgraded version of 360-degree view monitor system is also available with front and back sensors.
The Mazda3 2.5 Turbo will be available to dealers in the US by the end this year. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. The naturally-aspirated models won’t be available until then, as SkyActiv-G 2.0 or 2.5 engines will arrive in showrooms next month.
