2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB45 Gets an Early Debut via The Patent Office

There are no surprises.

Mercedes-AMG is slow to release the GLB 45, considering that the version of the GLB 35 was revealed in August 2019. We didn’t need a perfect design to understand the crossover’s features, but patent drawings show the details from many angles. The Automobile discovered the images. They are also available on the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s website.

Except for the quad exhausts at its back, the GLB 45 is essentially the same as its less powerful sibling Affalterbach. Although the air intakes on the front bumper look a little different, you won’t be able to tell the difference if you only look at the front of two powerful crossovers. It’s even more difficult to distinguish the two AMGs due to the Panamericana aggressive grille featuring vertical slats.

The most significant difference between these two models is their power output. The GLB 35 has 302 horsepower and 295 lbft (400 Nm) torque. However, the GLB 45 is more powerful with 382 HP and 354 Lb-ft (382 Nm). The GLB 45 will only be available in the USA for the compact, boxy version. Mercedes in Europe will likely also sell the spicy GLB45 S with 416 horsepower and 369 lbft (500 Nm), which is the most powerful four-cylinder engine to be fitted to a road vehicle.

A Mercedes-AMG GLB45 should be available in the United States in 2021. This means that an official unveiling could occur in the coming weeks and months. The HTML45 and the GLB 45 models of the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 should be roughly equal in price to the mechanically related CLA35 or CLA 45 models, which retail at $46,900 and $54,800 respectively.

While boxy crossovers and sleek sedans are great, the US is not getting the most exciting model in AMG’s compact car range. The CLA45 Shooting Brake combines coupe-like sleekness with wagon-like functionality in a small, luxurious car.
