Later, more powerful models will be added to the range.
In 2019, we received a series of spy photos from our spy photographers showing a camouflaged compact, all-electric crossover from Mercedes Benz. A few days later, the German brand announced that it would be debuting the EQA moniker in approximately 12 months. Mercedes just revealed the final form of its all-new EQA.
The new entry-level model in the all-electric world is the battery-powered, high-riding hatch.
Mercedes-EQ vehicles. The compact car is also the first to be zero-emission from the Stuttgart-based automaker. Sales in Europe are scheduled for the spring of the year with production in Rastatt (Germany), and Beijing (China).
EQA 250, which is a single-motor electric motor powertrain with 188 horsepower (140kilowatts), was the first to arrive. The crossover’s 66.5-kWh lithiumion battery pack can take it up to 302 mi (486 km) but this number is determined by the highly optimistic NEDC regime. Mercedes has promised to launch more versions of its electric vehicle, including a dual-motor range-topper of 268 horsepower (200 kW), and a high-range model that can travel more than 310 miles (500km) on a single charge.
The EQA’s combined electrical consumption is 15.7 kWh/62 miles (15.7kWh/100 km). The three-pointed star states that the crossover’s drag coefficient, which is 0.28, is a significant contributor. The entire aerodynamic development was done in a digital environment, with all necessary measurements taken in the wind tunnel. This confirms the high quality of the numerical simulation.
The GLA is equipped with an advanced heat-pump, which heats the passenger compartment using the heat leftover from the electric motor. This improves efficiency. The system allows for preheating the cabin prior to departure via either the MBUX infotainment or the Mercedes Me application.
The overall shape and proportions for the EQA are very similar to the GLA’s combustion-powered GLA. Mercedes claims it actually used the GLA body as a base but has made numerous tweaks to make the EQA suitable for electric cars. The new aesthetic harmony is created by the enclosed grille and reshaped headlights, along with the slim taillights that are connected to an LED strip.
The EQA is almost identical inside to its brother, but there are some touches that give an idea of the crossover’s electrical nature. These can vary depending on the trim level and include different decorations or perforated leather seats (for Edition 1). The most striking difference between the GLA and other electric vehicles is the instrument cluster, which has its own displays.
The EQA is standard equipped with LED headlights, highbeam assist and power tailgate. It also has 18-inch alloy wheels, ambient lighting in 64 colors, a parking cam, and a leather steering column. You can personalize the EV crossover visually with two design packages: Electric Art or AMG Line. You can also choose the Night Package.
