2021 Mercedes GLA Teaser – Rear-Seat Versatility

2021 Mercedes GLA Teaser - Rear-Seat Versatility

Crossovers are the new minivans.

There are still a few days until the GLA’s big unveiling on December 11. Mercedes has plenty of time to post additional teasers about its compact crossover on social media. The latest episode puts a spotlight on the minivan-like versatility provided by the rear seats where the 40:20:40-split-folding bench can slide fore and aft depending on whether you need more cargo volume or increased legroom.

These features have been seen in other compact cars with the three-pointed star, such as the GLB or B-Class. It’s not surprising that the GLA will include highly adjustable rear seats. The legroom for those seated in the back will be much better than the previous model’s, even though it is 0.59 inches shorter (15 millimeters) overall. How is this possible? It is possible by stretching the wheelbase and reducing the overhangs.

Another major difference is the ride height. The cabin will have better visibility because Mercedes has lifted the vehicle more than 10 cm (3.93 inches). This should give the GLA an crossover appearance, rather than being a hatchback with stilts as it is today.

The GLA’s overhauled version will still be five-seat only, much like the B Class minivan. However, if you have a large family or require a third row, the GLB should be your choice. Mercedes has not yet commented on the volume of the cargo space, but we expect an increase in cubic footage over the 17.2 cu.ft and 43.6 cu.ft that you get in the GLA. After the rear bench is folded, it measures 5.7 ft.

The front of the German luxury marque promises some improvements, with more headroom for the passenger and driver. The cabin will incorporate bits and pieces of the A Class and GLB. Additionally, there will be a greater number of safety systems that are either standard or optional.

So the wait is almost over!
