2021 Mercedes Metris Launches New Automatic, More Equipment

The turbo 2.0-liter engine is still available.

The Mercedes-Benz Metris was first introduced to America in 2015. It has been a better alternative to the Ford Transit Connect. The van from Stuttgart has received a few improvements to ensure it remains competitive in the market for at least another year. The 2021 Metris is equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The torque converter replaces the seven-speed automatic and provides two driving modes, Comfort and Sport, and a manual M mode. The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine is powering all 2021 models with 208 horsepower, 258 pound-feet torque and 258 lb-ft.

The 2021 Metris addresses one of the major criticisms in our 2017 review. It comes with two wheelbases, one for the cargo version and one for passengers. The standard load comes with a wooden floor, but you can also choose to have plastic flooring, load anchoring rails, sidewall lashing rails, or interior paneling. The Metris receives an adaptive cruise control for the first time in America. The van’s Active Distance Assist name is used. It maintains a fixed distance to the vehicle ahead and uses a maximum of half of its braking power.

The digital rearview mirror is another addition to the model year. It transmits the image via a rear-facing HDR camera. This is Mercedes’s first offering in the passenger and cargo 2021 Metris segment. The new feature allows for a wider view of the vehicle behind it, without being restricted by large objects or head restraints. It also has a field of vision twice as large as an ordinary inside rearview mirror. The new Metris will go on sale in the United States in the first quarter 2021. Pricing details will be made available closer to the date of on-sale.
