It is currently scheduled to resume its spring timeframe in 2022.

The world of major auto shows seems to be on unstable ground. The 2021 New York Auto Show has been cancelled after many delays in the last year and a slew due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The show was to be open from August 20 through 29, with media events taking place on August 19. It is being tentatively scheduled to return to spring in April 2022.

“It is with great regret that the 2021 New York International Automobile Show at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center has had to be cancelled due to the increasing incidences of COVID-19 Delta variants and the increased measures announced by State officials recently to stop their spread,” stated Mark Schienberg, President of New York Auto Show.

Many plans have been altered by the rapid increase in COVID-19-related cases in the United States. On July 30, the Centers for Disease Control reported more than 105,000 cases in the US, compared with 8,069 on June 14. The number of cases in New York City has increased sharply over the past weeks. On August 2, 1,590 new cases were reported by CDC, compared with 91 in June.

The Chicago Auto Showin July saw very little new vehicle activity. The New York show looked like it would be a good opportunity to bring back the norm for automaker debuts. Subaru and Nissan were eager to unveil their new performance vehicles to the world. Hyundai planned to present its new Elantra N sport sedan to US customers for the first-time in New York. This is not counting any possible concepts or surprise announcements that may crop up just a few days prior.
