Kolesa.ru did something very interesting with their latest rendering. They pictured the newly unveiled Golf GTI with styling cues that were adapted from the model with double headlights. This design is actually based on the Golf Mk1 with the larger taillights that were introduced at the end 1980.

Retro-flavored performance hatchback was imagined in the three door layout because this is the body style that many Golf GTI fans associate with the original Golf GTI. However, there was also a five-door model. The beauty of a car is subjective, as they say. However, we all agree that it looks quite interesting and has a stronger personality to it than the Mk8.

To mirror the design trend that is becoming more popular in current cars, the larger taillights on the Golf GTI Mk1 facelift are connected to the tailgate via a wide LED strip. We wouldn’t mind having the finished product in our garage, especially as the new GTI is only available in a five-door version. VW, along with many other automakers that fall under the VAG umbrella, have dropped compact three-door models. However, many hot-hat enthusiasts would love to see the GTI Mk8 with just two doors.
