2021 VW Golf Wagon Featured With Camo Only on Taillights
A reveal is possible when 99 percent of the disguise has been removed.

The Volkswagen Golf Variant isn’t the most exciting compact wagon on the market, unless it’s an R model. Although it may not be appealing to everyone, the Wolfsburg long-roof car is extremely popular with European families who need more space than the hatchback. The five-door model is still the most popular on the Old Continent. However, the wagon sibling, the Skoda Octavia combi, is more popular. VW is hoping to change the game by outclassing its sister model with the new Golf wagon.

New spy shots show the model nearly in its entirety, with camouflage limiting the visibility to the taillights. The prototype right-hand drive model appears to have lower specs judging from the lack of faux exhaust tips and small wheels. The back of this prototype has something very strange. The actual red reflectors are covered in body-colored camouflage, and the lower portion of the bumper appears to have fake red stickers.

It is possible that VW will soon reveal the vehicle’s camouflage. Only thing that is missing from the puzzle is whether the Golf Variant will receive GTD as well as R performance derivatives in Europe. We are also curious as to whether the GTE plug in hybrid will be made available in wagon form.

The hatchback will inherit engines, gearboxes and technology. People will be most interested in the increased cargo volume of the wagon over the hatch. The Mk7 has lasted with 380 liters, so the Golf Variant could have 605 liters. If you need more, the Czech version can take 640 liters.

We hope the Golf lineup will become more diverse with the introduction of the new Alltrack, which will serve as an alternative to VW’s range of crossovers. Unfortunately, the US market has eliminated both the regular wagon as well as its jacked up sibling. They are unlikely to be back in the near future.

Volkswagen had to stop customer deliveries for several weeks after a software problem caused the launch of the Golf 8. Skoda Octavia Combi also experienced the same issue, but the problem with the emergency call function was resolved and deliveries have resumed.
