You can choose from gasoline, diesel or hybrid power for your front-wheel-drive minivan.
Although SUVs and crossovers may have taken over Europe and the rest of the world, Mercedes has launched a second generation B-Class. BMW believes there is still enough demand for a luxurious minivan. It has launched a new 2 Series Active Tourer with some major design changes. A giant kidney grille sends strong signals to the compact luxury MPVX7
The sleeker LED headlights are optionally available with adaptive matrix technology and flanked by the vibes. To aid aero, the profile features new flush door handles and lower side reflectors. Wheel sizes range from 16 to 19 inches. To give the people-mover an updated look, the exhaust tip is now integrated under the bumper. The taillights have been slimmed to make them appear more modern.
The second-gen model is 32 mm longer than its predecessor (at 4386mm) and 24mm wider (at1824mm). However, the 2670mm wheelbase has remained unchanged. The model stands at 1576mm tall, while the front and back tracks have been increased by 25mm (1586 mm front/1586 mm rear). Active aerotech such as adjustable flaps in both the upper and lower grilles has helped to reduce drag coefficient to 0.26. To accommodate our guests, the interior was completely redesigned.BMW’s iDrive8 operating system
The new model features a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.7 inch touchscreen for infotainment. The extended center armrest houses the start/stop, hazard, and electronic parking brake buttons. There is also a small automatic gear lever and a rotary knob that controls the volume. The console “floating” has been removed from the floor, making it possible to store items.
It’s a minivan that is practical. Rear seats can move forward up to 13 cm and can be folded in a 40/20/40 arrangement. Cargo capacity ranges from 470 to 1,455 Liters. The standard equipment includes an electric tailgate and a two-zone automatic climate system. Customers can choose a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon’s audio system, or an electrically deployable trailer hitch for an additional charge.
The 218i model is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 136 horsepower (100kW) and 230 Newton-meters. The engine can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h), in just nine seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 214 km/h. The 220i is a three-pot that produces 170 HP (125 kW) or 280 Nm. In this case, the sprint time drops to 8.1 seconds while the top speed rises to 221 km/h.
The 4 cylinder 223i model has a 2.0-liter unit that produces 218 HP (160 kW) & 360 Nm. This allows the 2 Series Active Tourer 2 Series to sprint in 7 seconds and reach maximum speed of 241 km/h.
BMW doesn’t forget diesel enthusiasts. The 218d has a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine producing 150 horsepower (110 kW) as well as 360 Nm. The premium minivan, which was built in Leipzig, takes 8.8 seconds to sprint from 0 to 200 km/h.
The four transmit power to the front wheels via a seven speed, dual-clutch automated transmission. It will be available in Europe starting February 2022. Two months later, the 2 Series Active Tourer lineup is expanded to include two plug in hybrid models. One of these models is shown here with the 230e and xDrive, which has sportier styling.
