It will look exactly like this, whether you like it or not.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep the car’s design secret in the age of smartphones. BMW is learning this lesson the hard way. The Bavarians are struggling to keep the next 2 Series secret. Social media has been a great source of images in recent weeks with the tail-happy coupe captured without camouflage not only once but twice.
Today, our Russian friends at Kolesa have given us the complete picture (though it is still not official) courtesy renderings that follow the leaked images using the new 2er. We’re not just looking at a shot in darkness, as this is the exact same M240i we saw on Instagram earlier in the month. This means that what you see is exactly what you will find at a BMW dealer near to you when the next 2 Series goes on sale in about a year.
The new 2Series Coupe is well-known among BMW enthusiasts as its G42 codename. It offers a distinct departure from the current model in terms of styling. The new model won’t follow the XXL grille route that its larger brother, the 4 Series Coupe, has taken. This is a decision most people will be comfortable with. We have heard that the convertible won’t live to see another generation. This is not surprising considering the glory days of cabrio. Ask the Mercedes SLC…
The coupe’s long hood and low overhangs indicate that it will keep its RWD underpinnings. In M Performance trim, the sporty sports car will feature fat angular exhaust tips as well as a spoiler on the trunk lid. The M240i will be distinguished from the 2 Series Coupe variants by its generous air intakes and specific finishing for the kidney grille. These variants, along with the M135i hatch or M235i Gran Coupe, are more exciting than the rest.
The M240i, which is front-wheel-drive, will have a turbocharged 306-horsepower four-pot. However, the M240i on BMW’s CLAR platform will feature an inline-six that produces a lot more power. The M2 will be the highest-ranking model in the range and will receive a tuned M4 engine. This car is regarded as the most fun M car.
A public reveal could be made in the first half 2021, ahead of the US launch of the 2022MY.
