It ranges from mildly wild to sci-fi crazy.
The next generation Chevrolet Corvette Z06 should be quite a machine. It will be powered by an engine that is unlike any other in a Corvette. The Z06 is the most track-focused model in this lineup. This means that it will have a powerful engine and cornering ability.
The back wheels must be firmly planted as part of this process. A report by Muscle Cars and Trucks gives some insight into what this will look like, particularly in terms of the three rear wings. A third of the wings will have active aero features. We’ll discuss that later.
The standard C8 Stingray offers two options: a simple Z51 wing or no wing. The high-wing option was dropped . A similar fixed wing to the Z51 will be available for the Z06. It will serve as the Z06 base wing. Although not as large as the C8.R wing, the second wing is significantly larger. The wing is said to be different in shape, with a kink at the middle for better rear visibility. It’s likely to be the wing that you get with the optional Z07 package. This should include a kink in the middle for rear visibility.
We have seen GM patents for active aerotechnology that look quite impressive. The third Z06 wing will be able to adjust the wings as well as its side flaps. Although the report does not specify what it will look like we expect something similar to C8.R, which can include moving surfaces. The GM patent application shows that the wing is just one component of a complete active aero package. This includes vents and wings all around the car and active ride height adjustment.
The C8 Z06 is expected to be launched in 2022, however, the report suggests that the active aero may not be available for launch.
