We don’t know when it will return, but it is rumored.
The Dodge Challenger was America’s best-selling muscle vehicle last year. The Challenger saw an increase of three percent in sales to 54,314 units. The Mustang was second with 52,414 units. Although it’s not clear if the Challenger will maintain its momentum in 2022 or not, one thing is certain: the Challenger has lost one of its most important options.
Track discovered that a 2022 Challenger Hellcat equipped with a manual transmission cannot be configured if you visit Dodge’s online configurator. You have many options for visual enhancements and different equipment packages. However, the V8-powered Hellcat model does not come with the three-pedal transmission. As of writing, the Torqueflite eight speed automatic is the only transmission available.
We have reached out to Dodge representatives to verify the information and provide clarification if necessary. If new information becomes available, we will update this article.
According to Road and Track, the manual option for Challenger Hellcat has been removed in the 2021 model-year. This is apparently a temporary measure. The six-speed manual should be back at some point with a revised calibration. The production of Challenger Hellcats equipped with a stick-shift transmission was stopped in November 2013 and it is currently unknown when this option will be available again.
The cheapest Challenger Hellcat model year 2022 is $68,320. This is a substantial increase from the starting price of $61,850 for the 2021 Challenger Hellcat. This difference is due to the fact that there is no base model with a manual transmission. There’s only an automatic. The Challenger R/T models are available with the V8-powered engine. Scat Packs with 6.2-liter engines are also available.
