Only one engine will be offered for the last model year of the crossover in America.
It wasn’t surprising that Ford announced the retirement of the EcoSport for North American markets earlier this month. The automaker has closed its Indian manufacturing facilities. The little crossover will not be sold in the United States until mid-2022. A new report claims that it will only be sold with one engine.
Ford Authority learned that the 2022 EcoSport will only be available with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost three cylinder engine was standard on the SES trim, and the other trims had the 1.0-liter EcoBoost unit as a base option. The 2.0 was $1,595 for S grade, $1.500 for SE and $1.450 for Titanium.
The 2022 EcoSport will now be available as a standard model with an all-wheel drive. The crossover used to be available in FWD with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine. However, AWD will now be the standard model year for the 2022 model.
Although the EcoSport was introduced in the United States in 2018, it has not been a huge success in terms of sales. Last year, 60,545 EcoSports were sold. The model will be on sale until 2022, after which sales have fallen by 22 percent. Ford’s entry level model in the US will be called the Maverick once it is gone.
The EcoSport will still be available in Europe for purchase, at least for the moment. The production of the Old continent is done in Craiova, Romania. The EcoSport is considered a cheaper and more simple alternative to the Puma.
