Hot hatch receives a Mean Green paint job and new sporty seats.
The Volkswagen Group has updated the Polo and Ibiza, while transitioning Fabia to the next generation. Ford is responding by giving its supermini a makeover for 2022. The updated Fiesta will be available in three different flavors: Active, Regular, and ST. Although the styling changes inside and outside are subtle, this is to be expected with a mid-cycle update.
The Fiesta facelift includes some significant upgrades, such as standard LED headlights throughout the range. Higher-end variants can be fitted with matrix LED lights that provide an anti-dazzle high beam, in the same way as the Ibiza and Opel Corsa.
Black surrounds are standard on the headlights. You’ll also see them at the rear, where you can choose from darkened LED taillights. Each Fiesta version gets its own front grille design and other cosmetic tweaks in order to make it stand out from the rest. The ST-Line has a sporty appearance with a redesigned upper and lower grilles, as well as a gloss black honeycomb finish and larger faux air intakes.
Each of the Titanium and Trend models have a slightly different exterior design. This is also the case for the ST, the top-of-the-line model and its new Mean Green paint. Ford has kept the three-door Fiesta in existence, which is something that we are happy about. This is something that is not possible for most of its direct rivals. The subcompact hatchback’s optional Vignale packs give it a more luxurious appearance and extra goodies.
The 2022 Fiesta has a 12.3-inch configurable digital driver’s screen and a windscreen-mounted camera. This works with the navigation system to provide the Wrong-Way Alert system. Upgrade to the ST for new performance seats that offer better lateral support and integrate headrests.
The hot hatch receives a 10-percent increase in torque. It now offers a generous 312 Newton-meters (or 236 pound-feet) of torque from the turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine that is shared with the Puma ST. It still produces just under 200 horsepower. This is enough to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h), in six and a quarter seconds, and reach a top speed at 143 mph (223 km/h).
A Track mode is an ST-only feature. It replaces the Eco mode in the Fiesta. Upon activation, it switches off the traction control and changes the electronic stabilization control system to a “wide slip mode”. The hatch can also be equipped with a Quaife limited-slip differential for better handling in corners. You can swap out the standard 17-inch wheels for larger 18-inch wheels with a darker look.
The EcoBoost 1.0-liter EcoBoost is still available for the Fiesta. It can be tuned to produce 100, 125 or 155 horsepower. Turbocharged three-pots benefit from 48v mild hybrid tech for two of the more powerful configurations. They can also be connected to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
The 2022 Ford Fiesta will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of next year.
