2022 Ford Ranger Diesel With 3.0-Liter V6 Makes 443 LB-FT, 247 HP

A smaller, four-cylinder diesel engine is also available with one or more turbochargers.

The new Ranger was introduced by Ford last November for global markets. It didn’t provide much information about the powertrains. We’ve learned that the Raptor, the top-of-the-line Ranger, will have two outputs, depending on where it is located. But what about the diesels. The Blue Oval has now announced that the most powerful oil-burner will produce 247 horsepower (184 Kilowatts) as well as 600 Newton-meters (443 pounds-feet).

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel is torquey and comes with a stop/start option. This system is also available for the Ranger Raptor twin-turbo V6 gasoline mill. The Blue Oval will sell six-cylinder pickups with diesel engines in XLT, Sport and Wildtrak trims in Australia. Although the fuel economy figures have not yet been published, we know that the truck is compliant with Euro 5 regulations. On-demand 4WD systems come with 4H, 4H, and 4L modes. There is also a 4A auto mode.

The new Ranger is also available with a smaller 2.0-liter diesel motor. You can choose between a single-turbo four-pot configuration that produces 168 horsepower (125 kW) or 405 Nm (305 lb-ft). The twin-turbo layout produces 207 hp (154kW) and 500 Nm (537 lb-ft). The latest Ranger can carry a maximum payload of 1,327 kg (2,925 lbs) and a braked towing weight of up to 3,500kg (7,716lbs).

Ford will sell this workhorse with seven driving modes. Part- or full-time four wheel drive and, eventually, a plug in hybrid. All engines can be driven by a 10-speed automatic transmission. Some fleet vehicles will have four-cylinder engines that can be stopped/start.

As the next generation Volkswagen Amarok will be using the Ranger’s T6 platform, we expect similar technical specifications. Ford will actually build the truck in South Africa for VW. The MEB electric architecture, developed by the Germans, will be used in a few Ford-branded EVs as part of a larger tie-up.
