The festival of speed will be attended by the suave wagon.
Genesis presented the world its new G70 Shooting Brake in May. With a promise of more information, Genesis promised that more information would soon be available. The day is near as Hyundai’s luxury arm, Hyundai Luxury, will arrive at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed. With its new long roof, it will make its public debut. The striking Genesis X electric design will join the G70 Shooting Brake. It was first revealed in March 2021. The annual hill climb starts on July 8.
Dominique Boesch (Managing Director for Genesis Motor Europe) stated that Genesis is committed to honoring the region. He also said that the vehicles were presented at the distinguished British festival. “The G70 Shooting Brake, in particular, recognizes Europe’s automotive heritage through its iconic design and name, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to the region.”
Some Old Continent enthusiasts might be offended by this G70 version being called a shooting brake. A two-door vehicle with a long roof and fenders is considered a shooting brake. This means that there is more space between the front door and the wheel arches than the rear. The G70, a four-door long-roof vehicle, usually has an estate or station wagon classification. However, as we have seen over the years with many vehicle types, the definitions are often blurred.
The G70 Shooting Brake is elegant and sporty, no matter what it’s called. It is smaller than the G70 sedan, with the exception of the interior space. A wagon conversion gives you 40 percent more room for passengers and other items inside. The rear seats can be split to make the most of this space. We will likely reveal additional information, such as details about the powertrain or optional items, at Goodwood. However we don’t expect anything to be significantly different from what you see in the G70 sedan.
A new luxury station wagon from Genesis is a bold move considering the dominance of SUVs and crossovers in the automotive market. The luxury brand from South Korea wants to compete Mercedes-Benz and Audi on their turf with niche vehicles. It remains to be seen if it will eventually make its way to North America.
