It was found in Costco’s parking lot, and blended in with other cars.
The eleventh-generation Civic was first revealed by Honda in November 2020 as a prototype. It was then that the production model was unveiled last month. More relevant images are now available after a close-to-production prototype of Honda Civic was photographed by a member the CivicXI forums. It was found in a Costco parking lot in Torrance, California. The camouflage has been removed from the compact sedan.
The compact sedan is finished in Platinum White and has California distributor plates. This could indicate that it was being driven by an employee of Honda’s US headquarters in Torrance. Honda didn’t go out of style with its exterior design and decided to keep the Civic’s appearance the same as the previous-generation Civic. This is both good news and bad news, depending on your personal tastes.
For those looking for a more striking design, they will need to wait for either the Type R hatchback or the Civic Si sedan. Both will be available with a manual gearbox. Although the interior of this prototype was not photographed, we know that it is where the most significant changes were made by the generation switch. Although the exterior may be controversial, Honda has done an excellent job redesigning the cabin.
It is refreshing to see that the crossovers, and SUVs have not killed the old sedan. Honda knows there will always be a market for the classic three-box design. Although the five-door hatchback is close behind, the coupe body style isn’t going away since demand for two-door cars is on the rise.
The new Civic is still a major deal. Even though it doesn’t look like much, the design isn’t offensive. It will be interesting to see if the restrained design will increase sales, or if people who shop in this segment will look elsewhere for a design that has a little more flair.
