The compact pickup from Tucson appears to have a small bed.
The Santa Cruz is a Hyundai global pickup truck, unlike the H-100 cab-over Porter (H100). It will not be like the Porter, which is a basic pickup truck. The Santa Cruz will be a more luxurious utility vehicle that uses the latest-generation Tucson. It is clearly related to the compact crossover because of the polarizing design details visible through the camouflage.
The Hyundai’s Montgomery, Alabama assembly facility will be entering series production this year. The first Santa Cruz appears to be almost ready to shed its camouflage. The truck is getting ready to make its debut in the world, with the unique wheels and Tucson-borrowed side lights. The C-pillar trim is missing from the truck’s exterior, but the rest of the truck is ready for primetime.
The original concept, which was unveiled six years ago, had a longer cab layout and rear-hinged suicide doors. However, the production version has all doors hinged at its front. The design of Hyundai has certainly changed since the concept was first shown in Detroit six years ago. It will not look like the show truck. The prototype gives us an impression of a Tucson with its bed.
The oily bits will largely be inherited from the crossover but with the added convenience of a bed. The 2022 Santa Cruze is expected to be a more family-oriented truck, and less workhorse. In an interview last year, SangYup Lee, global design head at Hyundai, stated that the company has many options for larger trucks .
The world premiere of the Santa Cruz is expected to be held in the next few months, with production starting later this year. The unibody Santa Cruz has been confirmed to go on the US market. It will be a 2022MY model, similar to the Ford Maverick.
