It will not be a Cherokee L with fewer seating.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L was launchedwith its three-row body in January. However, the current-generation SUV continues to be available in its two-row configuration for 2021. Jeep said the 5-passenger Cherokee L would be coming later but that it wouldn’t be a copy of the Cherokee L. However, new spy shots show a Cherokee L prototype with the larger L in public, giving us a comparison.
Although the overall styling is the same, we can clearly see that the front fascia of the five-seater has a different look. The Grand Cherokee L is quite square, while the standard model is more rectangular with the corner vents cutting into the fascia. We suspect that the lower grille mirrors how the vents are angled. The upper grille may be a little larger. The edges might be a bit more round than the Grand Cherokee L.
We can see the new rear pillar and quarter-glass on the two row model by moving our eyes back. This angled design looks a lot like the WK-generation Grand Cherokee.
The Grand Cherokee L’s interior and powertrain options should be identical. We don’t expect any surprises. The Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid is coming to the lineup. However, it won’t likely be in the Grand Cherokee debut. The five-seater version of the Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid won’t be long in coming. The standard version will debut in the second half of this year, and go on sale in 2022. Its bigger brother has been revealed.
