It is slightly more powerful than the 6.4-liter V8.

In March 2022, Jeep presented its new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. According to Jeep, the mill will be 15% more efficient than similar V8 engines. The EPA now has official numbers to support that claim. This is the case for the Grand Wagoneer SUV.

According to EPA statistics, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer engine with the I6 engine gets a combined fuel economy rating of 17 mpg. The city economy is only 14 mpg, but the SUV’s full-size can travel 20 miles per gallon on the highway. These numbers may seem a little low for 2022. However, the V8-powered Grand Wagoneer boasts a combined rating 15 mpg. There are 18 highway miles and only 13 city. The I6 is a 15% improvement on the 6.4-liter Hemi.

Turbocharged six-pots are also more powerful. Jeep lists the Grand Wagoneer with 510 horsepower (381 kilowatts), and 471 HP (351 kW), in the Hemi-V8. The twin-turbo engine generates 500 lb-ft (691 Newton-meters), and 455 lb-617 Nm. Grand Wagoneer owners will have to pay more for power and efficiency. On all four Grand Wagoneer trims, the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter motor is an option that costs $2,000

This new engine is currently only available for the Grand Wagoneer and only with four-wheel drive. Curiously, an EPA listing is available for a Grand Wagoneer with two-wheel drive that has slightly better highway and city mileage, but the same 17-mpg combined rating. While the standard Wagoneer can be driven with two-wheel drive in, it is not available with I6. Jeep may offer the full-fat, 510-hp engine in other models than the Grand Wagoneer. Detuned versions of the engine with more than 400 horsepower (298 kW), are in development.
