To win the award, the Kia EV6 defeated the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The Kia Ev6 is the Car of the year, an award that allows auto journalists from 23 European nations to choose the best new vehicle in the past 12 months. The jury decided to not count votes from Russian delegates due to Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. The announcement of this decision stated that the votes would not have affected the ranking of either the winner or the runner-ups.
This year’s award went to the Kia EV6 with 279 points from the jury. This beat the Renault Megane Etech Electric which scored 265. The Hyundai Infinitiq 5 came in third place with 261 points. Other finalists were the Peugeot308, SkodaEnyaq (185 points), Ford Mustang Mach1_ (150 points), and Cupra Born (144 points).
It is the first time that Kia has won the Car of the Year award. The European WLTP rating states that the EV can travel up to 528 km (328 miles). There are many options for the model. There are two battery options: a 58.0- or 77.4-kilowatt hour option. There are both rear- and all-wheel drive options.
“Excellent EV due to its quick charging and great range for the price. The EV6 is less prone to body roll than the Hyundai and has a more fun handling and steering. “A bit sportier overall,” an unidentified member of the journey stated in the Car of the year winner’s announcement.
The EV6 can also be purchased with 58.0- or 77.4-kWh battery packs in the US. A smaller pack for a rear-wheel drive model has a EPA estimated range of 232 miles (373 km). The larger one increases the distance by 310 miles (499 km).
Only the 77.4-kWh lithium-ion battery is available for the all-wheel-drive model. The output of the two electric motors is 320 horsepower (239 Kilowatts). However, the downside to the additional power is that it reduces the range estimate to 274 miles (441 km).
The US EV6 lineup will now include the GT model in late 2022. The EV6 also features a dual-motor, all wheel-drive layout. However, the output power is 576 horsepower (430kilowatts). The model can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds.
