2022 Kia Sorento, PHEV has Three-Row Seating and 32 Miles of EV Range

The same SUV, but now with plug-and go capability

Kia revealed its fourth-generation Sorento model in 2020, as a 2021 model. The current SUV is still fresh in our minds. Now, there’s an updated version that packs an electric punch. The plug-in hybrid version has arrived. It combines a small electric range and three-row seating for the whole family.

A slightly newer version is what we mean because 2022 will be a year of visual differences. The new Kia logo is visible on the grille and the steering wheel. But everything else is the same. A plug-in hybrid will also have an additional access door to the passenger side that allows for the charging port. This can charge a 13.8 kWh lithium battery. The single-electric motor powers the turbocharged 1.6-liter four cylinder of Kia. Together, they produce 261 horsepower (195kW). Standard is all-wheel drive with a central locking differential.

The combined 79 MPGe rating of the engine and the powertrain together gives the SUV an estimated range of 460 miles. These figures are estimates by the manufacturer and not EPA ratings. According to Kia, it has the most legroom and passenger space of any plug-in hybrid SUV. It’s also not sparsely furnished, since all PHEV models will come with the high-end SX and SX Prestige models. There is a lot of standard equipment. Not the least of these being the most comprehensive set of safety and driver-assist systems available. The driver and front-seat passenger each have access to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as a 10.25 inch center touchscreen display. All passengers are comfortable on Syntex synthetic leather seats.

Kia has not yet shared pricing information for the new SorentoPHEV. This will be closer to the date of its on-sale, which is expected in the third quarter 2021.
