The GT model gets a slight power boost, while the base model can produce up to 300 ponies.
Today is the day Hyundai Kia enthusiasts in the USA have been waiting for. The 2022 Kia Stinger has been officially unveiled. All rumors about it are true. It’s not surprising that it was launched in other markets a while back, but sometimes things can get lost in translation. This is not the case, especially since under the hood, more power awaits all Stinger customers, regardless of trim.
This is where we will start our 2022 overview. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine which powered Stingers of lower specs has been gone. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine powers the base engine. It produces 300 horsepower (422 kilowatts) as well as 311 pound-feet (422 Newton-meters), of torque for GT-Line. This is a 45-hp (34kW) improvement over the previous model. Kia claims it can reach 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
However, this is not the only power boost. In GT models, the twin-turbocharged V6 of 3.3-liters increases in power to 368 horsepower (274 kW). All 2022 Stingers, regardless of trim level, shift using an eight-speed manual with paddle-shift capabilities. All-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are also options. GT buyers get an electronic variable exhaust system that provides increased audio enjoyment.
The exhaust gets new tips visually to distinguish the new models from their predecessors. The rear features new LED lighting, with a full-width strip that illuminates from lens to lens. The rear turn signals on GT1 and GT2 models are also LED. The front LED headlights are updated with a new signature for the daytime running lamps. You can also choose from either an 18-inch or 19 inch version of the updated wheels.
Inside, you will notice a 10.25-inch standard touchscreen. The package also includes a larger TFT center cluster measuring 4.2 inches. A 7-inch cluster is also available. The package includes an expanded range of standard-issue driver assistance systems, including forward-collision warning, braking assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alarm, as well as lane-keep aid and lane-keep assistant. The greenhouse has more visual punch thanks to the addition of chrome trim and black gloss, as well as Nappa leather seats and LED mood lighting.
A new special edition model, the Scorpion, will be available for the Stinger’s US debut in 2022. It will debut later in the spring as an appearance package that includes a rear spoiler and blacked-out exterior trim. Special black wheels are also included. The interior trim is carbon fiber pattern. It will be available in three exterior colors: Snow White, Aurora Black, or Ceramic Silver.
The 2022 Stinger starts at $36,090 with GT-Line trim on Kia’s customer-facing site. This does not include destination charges. The GT1 starts at $43,690 and comes with rear-wheel drive and a twin-turbocharged V6. The GT2 goes up to $51,290. The 2022 Stinger will be available from Kia this Spring, according to the company.
