The MC Stradale trim can produce over 600 horsepower.
Maserati gave us our first look at its next-generation 2022 GranTurismo earlier this month. Teaser images were released by Maserati showing the coupe in its production body. However, it was disguised with blue camouflage and cladding. Today’s spy photos show the GranTurismo in its original form without the Alfa Romeo Giulia cover it was hiding under. However, it still wears the same covers as the Maserati teasers.
These spy photos don’t offer a clear view of the coupe. It is difficult for photographers to capture clear shots of the test cars because they are parked next to other Maserati products. The best shots are taken from above, which gives a top-down view. Although camouflage and cladding hide some of the model’s more intricate styling details, it’s clear that this GranTurismo is all-in.
Maybe not all the way. The next-gen GranTurismo will have the look to proudly display the iconic nameplate, but things will change under the hood. Maserati’s new GT will be the first model to feature a fully-electric variant. This is just one of many models that Maserati plans to add to its lineup. It won’t be the only type of propulsion available to the car. Maserati will offer it along with other powertrains. Rumours suggest that the GT’s MC20’s Nettuno V6 will be found under the GT’s hood.
The high-performance MC Stradale trim may offer 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts). This nameplate could be reserved for an all-electric model. As there are few all-electric two-door models, the car will compete with models such as the Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan. Although an all-electric Gran Turismo is exciting, we will be waiting until it launches. While the next-generation model will be released alongside the new convertible GranCabrio, the electric version won’t make it to the market until 2022.
