These changes are less noticeable than the E-Class facelift.
The 2004 release of the CLS by Mercedes, a more sexy version of the EClass, raised a lot of eyebrows. Although the three-pointed star was criticised by some for releasing a redundant product in 2004, it is still a popular sedan 16 years later. The original model is still considered the most desirable, but the new third-generation model, unveiled in late 2017, is a great looker. These spy shots also show that there is a change.
Mercedes may be preparing the new CLS for launch in 2021, as evidenced by the test vehicle found near AMG’s headquarters at Affalterbach. The front grille appears to have been modified and the bumper may conceal different air intakes. We don’t see a Panamericana grille in the near future, but aftermarket enthusiasts are happy to oblige.
The CLS 53 is no fool, even though it doesn’t get the full-fat AMG treatment. The CLS 53 can go from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It tops out at 167 mph (270 km/h electronically) thanks to an inline-six that produces 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft (520Nm) and an electric motor that adds some power. We don’t know if these numbers will increase with the facelift, but it is possible that they will. It would also overlap with the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
