The AWD dual-motor variant is 389 horsepower.
Nissan’s strategy to bring 10 new models to market in the next 20 month is now in full swing. The time is right for another SUV to come out of the shadows, this time without a combustion engine. The new Ariya is a road-going version of the nameless Japanese marque that was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2019.
Nissan plans to offer the zero-emission SUV with either two- or all-wheel drive layouts and single- or dual-electric motors in order to broaden the Ariya’s appeal. 2WD single-motor will produce 215 horsepower (160 Kilowatts) & 221 poundfeet (3000 Newton-meters) respectively, while the AWD dual motor configuration will generate 389 horsepower (290kilowatts), and 443 pound (600 Newton-meters).
The AWD variants take seven and a quarter seconds to run the 0-62mph (0-100 km/h), before reaching a top speed of 99 mph (159 km/h). AWD and dual motors are the fastest and will sprint at 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds.
According to Nissan’s estimation, the Ariya will have a range of approximately 300 miles (483 km) in the United States. This number is applicable to the long-range two-wheel drive variant with the 90-kWh battery, which has a usable power of 87 kWh. A smaller 65-kWh battery will also be available, of which you can use 63 kWh.
Practicality will be affected by the addition of dual-motor AWD hardware. The cargo volume of the 2WD Ariya will drop from 16.5 cubic feet to 14.6 cubic foot. The electric SUV is available in a 5-passenger, two-row layout. It will be available with either 19- or 20-inch wheels. The Ariya features dual 12.3-inch displays, standard wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and will integrate Alexa. It also offers support for over-the air updates and support for Alexa – a first in Nissan. The latest safety innovations by the company will be featured on the Ariya, including the ProPILOT Assist 2.0 which allows hands-free driving in certain conditions.
The Nissan Ariya will be available in Japan starting in mid-2021, before being imported to the United States in late 2021. It is expected that it will retail for around $40,000.
