Since its 1991 launch, the Astra is a pillar of Opel’s model lineup. Although the Astra nameplate is actually a Vauxhall product, it was not the first generation of the Astra that was truly worldwide. The sixth-generation Astra is now in the works, exactly 30 years after its launch. Stellantis is now part of the Stellantis multi-national automotive group.
Opel The new Astra will be based largely on technology developed by PSA engineers. The new Peugeot 308 The new generation powertrains and systems were introduced to the world by, which was launched just a few months back. Most of the technology will be transferred to its German counterpart. The new Astra’s design will be vastly different from the French hatchback.
Opel has released the first teaser images for the new model last week. These images, along with earlier spy photos, offer a glimpse at the Astra’s future. Kolesa.ru was quick to put all the pieces together and create two renders of the hatchback, one from the front and the other from the back. Although it is too early to make any official statements, these images are very promising.
The introduction of electrified powertrains to the new Astra is a first in the history. Opel did not provide any details about the engine range. However, Peugeot’s new 308 can be ordered with two plug-in hybrids that emit zero emissions for as much as 37 miles (60 km) per WLTP.
Opel will also be selling the Astra with traditional 1.2-liter gasoline and 1.5-liter diesel engines for those who aren’t ready to switch to electrified power yet. The model could be launched later in its lifecycle with a performance OPC variant.
Opel will soon reveal the new Astra to all the world before it goes into production at Russelsheim, Germany.
