The Fiesta ST is regarded as one of the best cars to drive, and the Polo GTI has been outsold by the Blue Oval hot hatch. The recently redesigned model from Wolfsburg also faces stiff competition from the Hyundai i20N. It has seen a slight increase in power from 200 to 207 horsepower for 2022. But there is one problem. The two rivals have a stick-shift, but the punchy Polo has a DSG.
Volkswagen claims that the dual-clutch auto gearbox is extremely fast for a small hatchback. The 0-60 mph (100 km/h), run takes just six and a quarter seconds. Motorsport Magazine tested that number by taking the 2022 Polo GTI for acceleration testing. The sprint was completed in the exact time stated by VW.
The Grand Tourer Injection was able to complete the distance from 0 to 124, a speed of 200 km/h, in 26.3 seconds. It also ran the one-kilometer (0.62 mile) at the same speed. The B-segment GTI has a 2.0-liter engine that produces 236 pound-feet (320 Newton meters) of torque. It is powered by a seven-speed DSG.
We mentioned that the Polo GTI is significantly more expensive than its main competitors due to the lack of a manual. It starts at EUR31,095 in Germany, while the Fiesta ST X is priced at EUR28,900. The i20N is the cheapest, selling for EUR25,490. The i30N is actually only EUR2,000 less expensive than the Polo GTI. This premium will be appreciated by many.
