2023 AMG-C63 Tests 4-Cylinder Engine at The Nurburgring

The hybrid inline-4 and F1 technology are the new features of the C63.

An all-new hybrid drivetrain makes the 2023 AMG C63 possibly the most significant model change. You will no longer find the familiar Mercedes-AMG V8. Instead, you’ll find a turbocharged 4-Cylinder engine that is augmented with a clever hybrid system. Mercedes-AMG is serious in developing the next generation 2023 AMG C63. A prototype camouflaged prototype was tested at the Nurburgring.

The Mercedes-AMG team is introducing a new era to their C63 sports sedan. Previously, they relied on large displacement V8s. The new model is based on a clean sheet design. It includes a longitudinally mounted M139 turbocharged 2.0 liter inline-four engine found in the CLA45 and a rear-mounted electrical motor.

The M139 Inline-4 will use an electric turbocharger system, which replaces the CLA45’s conventional setup. The unique e-turbo eliminates turbo lag completely and provides a better response than conventional setups. The rear-mounted electric motor supports the boosted Inline-4 and has its own 2-speed transmission for improved high-speed performance.

Mercedes-AMG is yet to confirm the total output of this cutting-edge powertrain. However, it is believed that it will produce more than 500 horsepower (372 Kilowatts). The new 2023 AMG C63 will be at least equal to the old model, which produced 503 horsepower using its simpler twin-turbo V8 engine.

The 2023 AMG C63 uses the most recent Formula One motorsport technology to improve performance and decrease emissions. This is very exciting news for race fans. While the Mercedes-AMG history of the 4.0-liter V8 will be cherished, the brand has decided to adapt in order to survive.

The production-ready 2023 AMG C63 will be available later in the year. This will give us our first glimpse of the future high-powered German sports sedans. Although this Nurburgring-proven sports sedan has a new drivetrain, we expect the Mercedes-AMG style to be retained.
