2023 BMW 7 Series Announces Japan's First Edition

Both the ICE- and the electric versions will be coming to the Land of the Rising Sun.

The unveiling of the next generation BMW 7 Series is probably the most important news this week. It’s not without its quirky split headlights, but it’s still the most important 7er of all time due to the fact it has a full-electric counterpart, called the i7.

BMW Japan is so excited about the model that it announced the 2023 BMW 7 Series a few months before its official arrival later in the year. The company has already begun taking orders for the “First Edition” models. These are limited editions for the Land of the Rising Sun.

The BMW 7 Series “The First Edition”, available in Japan in three versions. The 740i Excellence, 740i Sport and full-electric i7xDrive60 Excellence are all available. These three models are the first edition and will include the 8K panoramic 31.3-inch display in the rear passengers area. This huge screen is paired with a Bowers & Wilkins soundsystem, which boasts an amplifier output power of 1,965W and 40 speakers. It also has 32 channels.

Although the new 7er is a significant leap in design when compared to its predecessors the Bavarians maintain their status as the highest-spec, top-end BMW model. The first-edition models come with the highly sought-after merino leather seats in different colors.

The ICE-powered BMW 7 Series Japan models come equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter Inline-Six engine with a 48 volt mild-hybrid assistance. The total output is 375 horsepower (280 Kilowatts) with 383 pound-feet (519 Newton meters) of torque. There’s a short boost to 398lb-ft (540 Nm), when necessary.

The electric BMW i7 also comes with two motors, one each of 536 hp (405 kW) and the other 549 lb-ft (744Nm) respectively. According to the estimated EPA ratings, the 101.70-kilowatt hour battery pack should be able run approximately 300 miles (483 km) on one full charge.

The 2023 BMW 7 Series “The First Edition”, models will be available in Japan in a limited number. 50 will be for the 740i Excellence, 50 the 740i Sport and 50 the i7xDrive60 Excellence. BMW Japan stated that deliveries will start in the fourth quarter.
