The BMW M2 is set to be the last BMW M vehicle with three pedals. The development of the new M2 is in its final stages. Bavarian firm is currently testing the vehicle around the Nurburgring. The sports coupe was recently involved in a high-speed chase against another M product, M4 CSL.

This Automotive Mike video takes us to the famous track, where the 2023M2 does laps at full throttle. This video was shot during an Industry Pool at the circuit. There is heavy traffic on some sections. This is not an issue for the HTML2, as it quickly takes over all other cars. However, it is no match to the larger, stronger, more difficult-to-control CSL. Although you might think this is the M240i it is actually the M220i. The larger, more angular intakes on the front bumper indicate that this is the more powerful M2. We also see a different exhaust arrangement in the back. Additionally, we believe we are seeing larger wheels that hide larger brakes. Previous spy photographs suggested that the headlights might have been modified in comparison to the regular 2 Series, but it is difficult to confirm this due to the camouflage.

Many enthusiasts consider the M2 to be the best-selling old-school Bimmer in history. The Competition version of the M4’s 3.0-liter engine will be used to power the performance coupe. It should produce around 450 horsepower. This means that the new model will have a similar power output to the M2 CS. We expect even hotter derivatives in the future. The new M2 will only be available with rear-wheel drive. To please both sides, a six-speed manual gearbox as well as an eight-speed auto transmission should be available. Rumours have circulated that the M2 CSL might be launched in the near future. However, nothing is confirmed at this time.
