According to new rumors, the M2 is milder than originally thought.
A new BMW M2 model is being developed. We’ve seen many camouflaged test cars with M-infused design tweaks, including the 2 Series. It debuted in July 2021. Some leaked images were even captured from China, which showed a large grille and a chunky front fascia. It’s the hidden grille that is most interesting to enthusiasts.
BMW has not yet confirmed the details of the powertrain, but rumors are circulating. Although a detuned version is almost certain, we have heard that it could produce as much as 455 horsepower (336kilowatts), and as high as 490 horsepower (365 kW) when used in Competition trim. These are some impressive numbers, but Auto Express says the production model will not be as wild. The article instead claims that the Competition will be powered by at least 400 horsepower (298 kW), and upwards to 430 horsepower (321 kW). This is not significantly different than the current model.
The source of the information in this article is not listed. Although the power claims may be different than other rumors, some of the information mentioned is similar like the availability for a manual transmission. This article confirms that the M2 is purely rear-wheel driven, rather than the xDrive system featuring an RWD-only mode. It is possible that it will not be available until 2022.
It is unclear whether that refers to an official debut or a production release. Previous rumors suggested a production launch in 2022 for delivery in 2023 with a possible debut this summer. It will be available at dealerships in the UK for around PS60,000. However, this information is not confirmed۔
