The production of the M2 will start before the end of this year.
The new BMW M2 is shown in profile. These images also show the tail zoomed to give a better view of the trunk lid’s rear wing. It rides on a pair of bronze-colored wheels that have a angular, dual-spoke design.
The M2 is covered in a camouflage pattern. This hides all details. The photo gives you an idea of the dimensions. The nose is long at the front and slants downward. The prominent side sills and muscular proportions of the rear fenders are evident.
Two exhaust configurations are being used in M2 testing. The standard setup is which has two pipes on either side of the body and a piece of bodywork that separates them. The other design, has four outlets in a trapezoidal form with two at the top and two at the bottom.
Recent spy photos gave us a glimpse inside an M2 prototype. A pair of large screens are used for the digital instrument panel as well as the infotainment display. The center console features a tall gearshift with a circular dial that controls the iDrive software.
The long hood is said to contain a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with twin-turbocharged S58. The application is said to produce around 450 horsepower (335 megawatts). We have seen the M2 so far with an automatic transmission. It is not known if a manual transmission will be offered.
We are not sure when BMW will unveil the M2. According to the company, assembly will begin “at the beginning of 2022” at San Luis Potosi (Mexico). This plant also produces the 3 Series and 2 Series Coupe. The brand has hired 800 people to begin a second shift.
BMW is also showcasing a new M-car at Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from Thursday, 23 June, through Sunday 26 June. We can’t rule it out that the unveiling could be the M2.
