BMW has officially begun the countdown to the world premiere for the M2 G87, which will be the last M-car without electrification. The M2 G87, which is ICE-only, will be remembered as the last model to feature the “world’s strongest letter.” The German premium brand has been teasing the new M2 for some time. Now, we are being told that the wraps will be on the car in October. The sports coupe will be available for purchase in April 2023.

We were able to test drive an M2 prototype earlier in the year. BMW intends to only sell the smallest M car with a rear-wheel-drive layout. This will allow the engine’s power to be transferred through either a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional M Steptronic automated gearbox.

The S58 engine will be derived from the HTML4. However, don’t expect the same power levels as the next-gen M2 which would allow it to outsell the larger M cars. BMW claims that the new M2 will offer the same performance level as the M2CS. The M2 will carry the M4’s braking system and be equipped with a carbon-fiber roof to reduce weight. The cabin will have carbon-fiber bucket seats in the front, which will add to the sporty atmosphere. The interior will house the instrument cluster as well as the touchscreen in the same curved glass piece that is used on all BMWs with iDrive 8.

The M2 will look wider than the 2 Series Coupe’s lower versions, as shown by its bulging fenders. The new M2 will look aggressive once the M livery is removed. It should be a significant step up from the .

There is still much to be done in October, but BMW seems to have plenty of teasers to help build hype for the final M+ICE formula.
