2023 BMW M2 with Center Exhaust Spied Waiting at Red Light

The prototype was outfitted with M Performance upgrades, which included a powerful spoiler.

A BMW M2 G87 was captured by an Instagrammer last week. Our spies now have the exact same prototype waiting at a red signal. We have better photos than ever before and can now take a close look at Bavaria’s smallest M car. The car’s rear is still a bit difficult to understand, despite being familiar with its square air intakes.

This is not an M2 standard. It has been customized with optional parts from M Performance’s catalog. The quad exhaust is wild looking with its stacked tips in the middle. This is not a new design. BMW showed this configuration in September 2020 for its larger M4 Coupe.

To further indicate that this is not your average M2, there’s a big spoiler on the trunk lid. This will also be an M Performance extra, as the standard car will feature a subtle spoiler lip similar to the M240i’s. The prototype’s massive brakes are highlighted by blue calipers.

You’ll be able, even without looking at its exterior, to distinguish the M2 from other 2 Series Coupes. The flagship model will get the iDrive8 with the pair of screens next to each other, just like the Mercedes. We can’t recall the last time two generations of infotainment were offered in the same model line-up by a car manufacturer. These transitions typically occur with the car’s successor, mid-cycle facelift or when the new range-topping model is launched.

We can all appreciate BMW for saving the manual, despite its shaky design choices and poor tech choices. The new M2 will continue to offer three pedals as a standard, while an optional automatic will be available for those who prefer it. The M4’s twin-turbo S58 engine will be used in the coupe. However, it has been lowered to prevent cannibalizing sales. The 3.0-liter inline-six engine should produce approximately 450 horsepower for the M2 Competition. This would be comparable to the M2CS with its 444-hp punch.

This year’s world premiere will be held to mark half a century of M division. BMW also has the M3 Touring and M4 CSL in 2022, as well as the XM plug in hybrid SUV. The year in which the German luxury brand, BMW, announced its plans to bring Alpina under its corporate umbrella (which also includes Mini, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad) will be etched in history.
